Narcissist are unable to regulate their negative emotions, and they are in need of constant validation, constant affirmation, and admiration from others, they lack self awareness, and they tend to manipulate, and deceive to get what they want.

Despite all the pious they may say or do. They may not even realize it. Let’s look at a colorful passage in the bible, where Jesus actually, talks about the hypocrisy of the religious Narcissist of his day. Jesus told us 3 things we should do, when we find ourselves encountering similar people in our lives.

They did not empathized with the suffering of people, when Jesus would heal people, instead of the religious leaders rejoicing, that those people were free from years of suffering and torment, they were in raged that Jesus healed on the sabbath, the religious leaders wanted people’s honor and admiration, which was actually their drug of narcissism of supply.

They would gnash their teeth. The religious leaders they were also envious 📖It was their envy that nailed Jesus to the cross. So the ancient religious leaders of biblical times are similar to today’s modern day narcissist.

The passage is Matthew 23 So Jesus was quickly becoming a public famous figure, doing healings and many miracles and people were praising him, and calling him Hosanna, laying their clothes and their branches on the streets, as He passed by.

After that event, the religious leaders were trying to test Jesus, over and over trying to trap him on his words, with many controversial questions, or sometimes using convoluted hypothetical scenario’s but Jesus was brilliant and wise and He rendered this people’s speechless each time, so no one was able to ask Him questions any more.

Then three ways He instruct his hearer’s to respond. Do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach and do not practice. Matthew 23.3 That is an interested statement! A lot of times this religious Narcissist will say the right things, and how biblically sound messages, and all the right bible verses, but the problem is, that they have an agenda behind the words they say.

So they may have teachings that will move the hearts of the people who read their posts. But they themselves, ascribe to little or none of what they say. In other words, they do not practice what they preach. Jesus calls such a people hypocrites. He compares them, as washed tombs, they look real good, and poor and pious in the outside, but on the inside, they are full of death man’s bones.

So again, Jesus is describing some interested Narcissist traits here. They have unreasonable, unattainable expectations of others, They have a high laundry list, of religious requirements. Expecting people to perform and be good enough for their approval, but this people are not willing to help others and they do not live to the high and strict standards that they impose of others. Jesus goes on to say later What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you pharisees. Hypocrites!

You strain your water so you won’t accidentally swallow a gnat, but you swallow a camel.” Matthew 23:23 That is a-lot like a Narcissist they perform religious activities, look very good in the outside, but they neglect dealing with the sins of their heart. Pride, Envy, Hatred, Deception, Anger, to simply name a few things. Which are heavy weight issues according to God. Paul the Apostle said, that you can have faith to move mountains, you can prophecy into the moon and back.

Simply put, Narcissist spend more time, creating an imaged, being super spiritual than actually cultivating the spirituality within themselves. These people are very imaged conscience. The fourth thing Jesus said, about them. “ And they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the Synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi.” Matthew 23:6

Jesus highlights three main things; Addresses any possibility for Narcissism to be in the attitudes and hearts of the crowd. Jesus says to them, don’t let them call you Rabbi. Simply said, don’t get infected with the Narcissistic pride, self importance, grandiosity of the religious leaders by pursuing lofty positions, and titles, for the sake of being honored, and admired.
